1,286 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: First Contact
Location: USS Intrepid: Captain’s Quarters
Timeline: MD3: 1900 hours - After Something You Don’t See Every Day

Max and Dani entered their quarters together after viewing the USS Opal drop out of its Quantum Slipstream and shaking off their disappointment. Commander Lorut was supposed to be briefing the crew of the Opal now.

Max turned around after dropping his combadge in its place by the door. He wrapped his arms around Dani’s body, laying his head on Dani’s shoulder where he closed his eyes and just breathed in the scent Dani was wearing. Some new Tholian cologne that was more expensive than Tholian Silk. It was a barely there scent, until mixed with natural pheromones, after which it affected its intended target.

Dani wrapped his arms around Max in return, even somewhat supporting Max’s weight for a moment. Dani ran his hands over Max’s back, over the black fabric and into his hair, pulling his head to one side. Now barely exposed was the virgin flesh of his lover’s neck. Dani took advantage, placing gentle kisses there.

Max nodded silently, but didn’t let go of Dani. Dani could see the skin rise with goosebumps. “I think you told the doctor you had some relaxing to do before some heavy sleeping?” Dani repeated Max’s words with exacting detail, except that he had done so quietly, almost as a whisper.

Max nodded silently again, not wanting to control anything after controlling every second of the last few days. Dani seemed to sense the problem. “Go upstairs and run a nice bath, you’ll want a clean shave for this Captain Taylor and your historic day. Saving a planet isn’t something you do every day.

Max seemed to sigh heavily, pulling himself upright and away from the handsome, young man who he had somehow found first. Drawing up to his full height, Max stalked up the stairs, a spiral staircase in their conceptualized tree house. They couldn’t be far from Kaydren or their shared sentient tree.

Imagine explaining that as a reason for needing four decks for their quarters and a section of the deck below for the root structure. She had seemed sad in those final days on Triton Seabase, having lost Dani and in a funk. Seemingly, she matched Max’s feelings. Kaydren wouldn’t admit it, but the blue teddy bear needed his family back together, he just wasn’t as silent as the ridiculous, and terrifying, bear.

Max had run the water to his perfect temperature, a little on the hot side. He stepped out into the sky loft bedroom, tossing his clothes into the holographically disguised “hamper”. Naked in a house like this would be impractical anywhere beyond the deepest forests on an undiscovered planet. Max felt a wave of appreciation from the tree at his thoughts of a deep forest.

Max sunk into the hot water, ending up chest deep in the extra deep tub. He laid his head back against the cool rim of the iron tub before closing his eyes. Frasier was right about taking some time off. Three days at proverbial warp nine had been exhausting.

Max was surprised when the door opened and Dani appeared behind some kind of oversized board. “What are you doing?” Max asked, laughing.

Dani looked at Max as he stood up, ready to help. “Sit down, you’ll just make it more crowded,” Dani admonished Max who quickly sunk back into the hot water. Once through the door, Dani was able to maneuver the board that slipped over the rim of the tub. He slipped out as Max secured the board from tipping or sliding off.

A moment later, Dani returned with a desert plate filled with chocolate covered strawberries, one of Max’s favorites, and a champagne glass filled with champagne.

“The galley told me you were asking about these last night, but they hadn’t prepared any. Now, you have a dozen fancy chocolate dipped strawberries and a strawberry champagne to go with them. I suggest you eat them fast, the chocolate is already melting,” Dani said, laughing as Max mad an absolute mess with the first one.

With the second one becoming a sloppy mess of dripping chocolate (even dripping into the bath water), Max handed the plate to Dani. “Maybe put these back in the cold for a bit?” Max suggested. Dani giggled as he took the strawberries away.

Max pushed the wooden tray down towards his feet and sipped the champagne. When Dani returned, he had the bottle in hand, pouring some more of the alcohol for Max. It wasn’t long before Dani reached out for Max’s glass one more time and instead got pulled into the bath with Max, clothes and all.

Dani came up sputtering, now soaking wet. He took a moment to catch his breath while Max laughed hysterically. Once he recovered, Dani stood up and, completely wet from head to toe, he started to slowly peal away his shirt. A moment later, while still entrenched in the wet shirt, he jumped as Max touched his waist, unbuttoning his pants and pulling them down with more ease than he was having with the shirt.

Max seemed to notice his trouble because a moment after Dani shed his pants, Max pulled the shirt and with the added strength, the shirt came away with the sound of wet suction. Dani didn’t realize it until he could see, but Max balled up the shirt and threw it out the window. He gave Max a quizzical look, but it was ignored as his boyfriend peeled off one sock, then the other.

With just a small bit of underwear between them, Dani waited. Max made sure to stand, catching Dani’s chin and locking into his blue eyes that seemed so deep you could fall into them forever. Gone was the childish play between them. Their eyes were filled with lustful need and gone was the last barrier between them, flung out the window with the other clothes.

Mouths were exploratory and hands left no flesh untouched. Dani backed out of the tub, onto some type of carpeting. Both he and Max looked down to see there were bathmats throughout the bathroom. “Nice touch by the computer so we don’t trip on the wet tile,” Max noticed before grabbing an extra large towel off the sink and wrapping it around their naked bodies, mostly using it to capture Dani.

Now, bare hands dried wet flesh as the two men moved, tripping onto the bed. They were still wet from head to toe. Still warm from the bath and each other’s body heat. A moment stopped as their eyes caught and locked. No more than a moment between one breath and the next, but forever for the couple. It was in this moment that Max knew he would stay beside Dani until one of them died.

A single breath and the moment was broken. “What were you thinking?” Dani asked sweetly, brushing the hair back off of Max’s forehead.

Max leaned forward to resume their kissing, but the intimacy wasn’t broken - just paused. Max knew the look. The predator had his prey, trapped. Max locked his gaze with Dani’s again. “I was thinking we should get married,” Max admitted.

“You’re a fool, Max Culver, and I’m thinking yes. At least, if that was a proposal?!”

Max was stunned but eventually managed, “Yes.”

Not a single thought was left that their bodies couldn’t express.

After, in the dark and with Dani’s head resting on his shoulder, Max asked. “Daniel Culver sounds nice.”

Dani smiled. “Go to sleep, Captain Martinez.”
