1,354 words; about a 7 minute read

Mission: First Contact
Location: Sickbay

Having finished reporting in to the command team, Roaa made his way down to Sickbay, only having to ask directions once. He was eager to get to work, but a bit nervous. It normally took him time to adjust to new colleagues and let his mane down. Taking a steadying breath, he walked into Sickbay. Not seeing anyone near the entrance, he cleared his throat and said "Excuse me, is anyone here? I'm supposed to be reporting for duty?"

A slim Caitian, in a Medical Skant Uniform and white lab coat pokes thier head out of the ACMO's office attached to the main sickbay with a curious purr.

"Hello There"

They beam, coming out of their office with a catlike gracefullness. They had their hair over one side, the otherside shaved showing thier white fur under blue hair.

"Always great to see another Caitian. I'm Morgan Alexander-Harrington, I've just been assigned here as the Assistant Chief Medical Officer."

They puts out a hand in greeting.

Shaking the offered hand, Roaa replied "It's nice to meet you too Doctor. I'm Lieutenant Roaa, the new Chief Counselor. I'll also be working here as a medical officer. I've just come aboard and was asked to report in."

"Fantastic, Welcome Aboard. Always need a good Counselor on a starship. I was just getting settled into my new office, if you want to join me for a cup of coffee or whatever caffiene you prefer?"

They smile as they led them both to their new office.

Smiling slightly, feeling his tail swish slightly, Roaa replied "That would be lovely Doctor. Jasmine tea perhaps?"

Morgan nods, going over to the replicator and ordering a coffee and a Jasmine tea. Picking them up when they were ready and bringing it over to the desk.

"So, Tell me a bit about yourself, as it seem we'll be working closely together"

Taking the offered mug in a forepaw, Roaa took a seat, and a small sip of his drink. Thinking for a moment, he replied "I'm not sure where to start. Bur let's say my journey to and in Starfleet has been interesting to say the least. " Pausing he added, "To start I guess, can I ask if you're familiar with the more conservative and traditional dens on Cait?"

"No, my birth parents died during the Dominion War, I was adopted into a Noble family in the Alpha Centauri Kingdoms."

The Klingon doctor came out of Exam Room Alpha, a young male crewman trailing behind him. "Alright, Crewman Winters, try to limit your drinking at the junior staff parties, ok?" He said. As the young crewman left, Gocx entered the office. "Hello, I am Dr. Ukram, House of Gocx. You must be Dr. Alexander-Harrington. It's nice to meet you," he said. He was happy to see them; Ukram himself was close to retiring back to Kronos. "Sorry to interrupt, I just came to get my PADD," he said, getting the tablet and moving to leave.

"Please, join us. This is Roaa, our new chief counselor."

They smile at the klingon, offering a chair in front of their desk.

Ukram nodded, and took a seat, folding his large frame into the chair.

"It's rare to see Klingons in Starfleet, not since Worf, Son of Mogh was in the service, so I'm very glad to make your acquaintance."

Nodding in greeting to the other person Roaa said " Nice to meet you Doctor. I'm just settling in. Haven't been on board long."

Gocx nodded. "Mr. Worf is a contemporary," he said. They knew each other, but in the sort of way that your mom knows the other mom in a group. "I find that saving lives is honorable," he said, with a shrug. His father may not approve, but the old man was dead now, anyway. "What brings you to the Intrepid?" He asked.

"I'm the new Assistant Chief Medical Officer for the Intrepid."

Morgan beams at the Klingon.

"Was assigned here based on my specialties and my choice of field assignment was a starship on the edge of Federation Space, and any chance to serve on a Constitution Class ship"

Sipping his tea, Roaa watched the two doctors interact. They both seemed interesting people, and he knew he would learn from them both.

Ukram nodded. "If I remember correctly, I read that you're specializing in LGBTQI+ treatments? That will come in handy on this ship, and everywhere, as more and more worlds join the Federation and modernize their views," he said. His own people were SLOWLY becoming more tolerant but they still had a long way to go. Ukram himself had zero issues with other people existing, as long as they were peaceful.

“LGBTQI+ Medicine is my foundational skill set, I also specialize in Gynecology, Obstetrics and Pediatrics.”

Morgan further elaborated for the Doctor.

“So…I guess you’re right, I’ll definitely have my hands full here. Speaking of, have we had crew physicals yet?”

They asked Ukram.

"Some of them," the Klingon replied. "The Captain, Commander Lorut, and Counselor Campbell have all voluntarily reported in. Dr. Greene let me do his and vice versa," he said. "But no one else," he commented. "We have some interesting cases on the ship, I am sure you'll stay busy," he said.

“I’m hoping so, someone’s got to keep things moving, and it’ll be good to see what’s out here in the frontier of space.”

They smile most happily, beaming a cute kitty smile.

Clearing his throat, having finished his tea, Roaa said "Excuse me Doctors, but I do have to settle into my office soon. Could Doctor Harrington show me around Sickbay and familiarize me with the layout?"

"It's one of the most modern sickbays in the fleet. Though you'll find better only on a Starbase Hospital." Morgan beams again.

Gocx nodded. "I'll let them show you around! I really DO need to prepare for the Commander today," he said. He and Greene had been tending to the woman's wounds that her excessive drinking was causing. He'd spoken to Counselor Campbell about it, but not yet the Captain-the first day, she'd managed to burn her arm on her replicator, and today, she'd had a fall. By all accounts, she was fine, but he wanted to check her over to be sure.

Roaa watched Gocx return to his duties and turned to Harrington. Smiling slightly he said "So the tour Doctor? Perhaps we can continue our earlier conversation?" Pausing, he added "I apologize if starting to discuss my past on Cait brought up difficult memories for you."

"Truth be told, I don't even remember life on Cait. Most of my memories from my childhood are debutante balls and Royal Court appearances and stuffy boring shit that you have to wear poofy court dress too."

Morgan started as they got up to lead Roaa on the tour of the sickbay.

Nodding, Roaa replied "The short version is my den was very conservative and traditional. When I expressed an interest in medicine and psychology, it didn't go well. My parents believed it was female work. Then after I eventually came out, then left Cait, they disowned me."

Morgan looks at Roaa.

"I'm sorry that happened to you. Even in this day, I sometime forget that those attitudes still exist in the galaxy. I like to think that most of the galaxy would be tolerant of others. I'm glad though that you're here. I like to also think that found families need to stick together."

Feeling a bit emotional at their comment, Roaa took a moment to steady himself and replied "Thank you for saying that Doctor. I look forward to getting to know you, and working on adding others to our chosen family." Pausing he added "I want to also thank you for taking the time to show me around. It helps me feel a little less thrown into the deep end paws first."

They smile brightly at the fellow Caitian.

"Of course, We Caitians should stick together, and I'm always a comm away if you need to talk or have an issue".
