Personal History Roaa is a Caitian male, similar in looks to a Terran lion. Unfortunately, he was the 'runt' of his litter, and was sickly as a kitten. His den mother didn’t expect him to live very long. He beat the odds but didn't grow as tall or broad as a normal male. Due to his smaller size, he wasn't involved in 'The Hunt', and was virtually ignored by a lot of siblings. He was seen as weak and in some ways, a drain on the den. As a result, he spent a lot more time with his mother studying, then out with the other males of his den. The fact that his mother was a healer in their community, helped cultivate his interest in medicine. His interest made him the source of a lot of abuse from other males, as medicine was seen as 'female' work.

Once he was old enough, and had finished standard school, He knew he had to get off Cait. He’d known for a long time that he didn’t really have a future there and needed to start his own life. It would be an understatement to say his parents disappointed with his decision. His sire, or father, disowned him, saying he was no longe of his den. His mother, that he had brought shame to the den and that she had hoped he would survive on his own. Gathering his meager belongings and the small amount of credits he’d saved over the years, he caught the next transport off world, bound for Earth. He knew it was the best place for him to start a new life, and been studying it for a long time. After arriving, he found a small apartment in the city of Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the east coast of North America. He knew he would need to apply for university and funding to support himself. Eventually he graduated with an undergraduate degree in Science, pre-med, with a minor in pyschology and began looking at medical schools. On a whim, thinking he had no chance to get in, he applied for a scholarship to Cambridge in England, and was accepted with a full ride.

While at the Cambridge , he met a lot of different types of people, and different species. These meetings help him realize that some of the feelings he had as a young kitten were normal. This realization lead to him having a few short term relationships with some of his male classmates, but nothing long term. With his identity still in development, Roaa found himself losing a bit of his outgoing personality, and struggling with some depression. Thankfully he was able to speak to some of the resident counsellors, and develop coping mechanisms.

Eventually, he graduated with his medical and pyschology degrees and began working in one of the campus hospitals. Over a few months, Roaa began to feel respect for his abilities as a healer and began to develop a stronger sense of self. After about 3 years a major accident occurred nearby, where a number of patients were seriously injured including some Starfleet officers. As a result his perspective of his future changed. It woke him up to the reality of being a Starfleet medical officer. Being a doctor wasn't just about regular checkups and patching up minor wounds. It had a darker side, where you had another beings life, literally in your paws. He felt he could do more in Starfleet than in a university hospital.

After some meetings with his supervisors and the admissions office at the Academy, he applied to the Officer Candidate Training School to hone his skills and learn more about Starfleet technology. Eventually he graduated and was assigned as a junior assistant to a surgeon at Starfleet Medical something he didn’t enjoy. He spent about 3 years in the role, developing his skills, then began looking for other positions. He wanted to meet new people, explore new places and gain new perspectives on both medicine and life in general.
