Mission: Short Treks
Location: Ready Room

Vila kicked back in the chair, exhausted. Captaining was hard work. She looked at her schedule, and sighed. She sat up, and sipped her coffee before tapping her Comms.

=/\=Lt. T'Karnak, please report to the Ready Room. =/\=

She needed to welcome aboard their newest crew member, and bring him up to speed.

From the helm, the Edosian signaled for a relief helmsman to take over his station. He checked the ship settings and engine status. It all showed green. Nothing should go wrong. When a young woman arrive, he stood up, "Just keep at this station." He said pointing at the coordinate on the screen with one of his 3 arms. She nodded as she took the seat.

T'Karnak moved to the door and rang the chime for the Captain's Ready Room. The chime rang.

"Lieutenant T'Karnak reporting, ma'am." He said standing at attention just inside the door.

"Come in," Vila responded, and then looked up from the file, and smiled lightly. "Hello. Please sit down," she said. She waited. "Welcome aboard," she said. "I know we've been in the weeds lately, so I just had a few free moments and wanted to touch base with you. How are you settling in?" She asked.

Taking a seat, T'Karnek gave a faint smile. Clasping his three hands together on his lap he took a quick mental recap of his time on the ship. "I am settling down just fine Comm... Captain. Still getting acclimated to the role."

Vila nodded. "Me, too," she said. "I understand. Is there anything I can do to help you settle in?" She asked. "You might hear that my tenure here started off a bit...uh...roughly," she said, "And that's very true. However, going forward, I would like for us to be as cohesive as possible. You've joined us at a good time-you missed some of the bad stuff, but came in time for some good, too," she said. He had missed the worst of her behaviors, mostly-behaviors she was overcoming due to the fact that she'd stopped drinking heavily.

Nodding, the Edosian expressed his condolences, "Yes. I am sorry for your loss." T'Karnek knew the pain of losing a Captain. It happened main years ago, but he remembered the pain still. Keeping with Edosian tradition, he had written a song for that Captain. The song echoed in his brain. "I am fine ma'am. I am still unpacking. I would like to know your expectations for the shuttle bay and helm rotations."

Vila nodded. "Thank you," she said. She paused a beat. "Well. I am new to this, so I think..just keep us in the air, don't crash, and do your best every day," she said. "Before I was the Executive Officer, I was Chief Science Officer. So it's been a learning curve." She shrugged. "As for duty rotas, I would like them at the end of each Friday for the following week, by 1700," she said. "I spend Sunday afternoons doing the weekly schedules, and like to send them out to department heads by Sunday evening," she said. And from there, she expected the Chiefs to disseminate them to their people.

"Aye." the Edosian said, "I can make that happen." He made a note of that in his PADD. He would have to make sure it was done before his weekly pickle ball game on the holodeck. He put the PADD down and looked back at the captain.

Vila nodded. "Thank you," she said. "Anyway. Are you settling in? Anything I can do to help you ease your transition?" She asked.

"I am settling in just fine Captain. The Quartermaster was very accommodating and the quarters are quite nice compared to my last posting." T'Karnak said with a smile. "At this point, Captain, I don't think there is anything that I need."

She smiled, and nodded. "Very well," she said. "If that changes, do let me know. Any thing you'd like to know?" She asked. "About me, the crew, our general mission?" She clarified.

The Edosian thought for a moment, "How is the engineering team? I like to work close with them on the engines. They may fix them, but I have to use them. So I like to have a good repertoire with the engineers of the ship."

"They are good," she said. "The lead engineer is Lt. Xall," she said. "He's very competent," she said. "I am sure he won't mind working directly with you. Stay clear of Callan, though...he's a little too flirty and will try to put the moves on you," she smiled. "But he's a good kid anyway. Chet, Chester Ripley, is our third in command, and the Beta Team CO. Touch base with him, as well. He was trained as an engineer, as well," she said.

T'Karnak smiled, "That's good to know. I will for sure connect with them before we depart. Even on a new ship like this, we need to make sure that we are operating at peak performance before jumping off into warp."

She nodded. "Excellent. You can always ask me to help if needed," she said. "Before you go, do you need anything from me to help you settle in better?" She asked.

"I am good Captain, thank you though for offering." The Edosian said with a slight smile.

Vila nodded. "Excellent. Feel free to stop by anytime, I try to keep an open-door policy," she said. It was true. Even when she was XO, she DID try to let the crew in anytime. "Good luck, and I'll see you tomorrow on the Bridge," she said, with a smile.
