Checking In (Back Post)

878 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: Interlude
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD6 0900

Feeling considerably better after his bout of flu Frasier was back on duty and catching up on the activities he'd missed. Sickbay had been gifted more talented hands in his absence - both would be highly useful considering the situation Captain Culver often put himself into. The CMO sighed recalling how the Captain was recently stabbed after a failure of the security team to disarm their quests. What a farce.

Curiously both new arrivals: Counsellor Roaa and Doctor Morgan Harrington where Caitian - up until now Frasier had only seen one in passing, but now with S'Tera along with the new arrivals there was three on board. What was that old earth saying about busses? Wait for one and three arrive at once?

He shook away the thought and checked the time - he'd asked Doctor Harrington to met him this morning to officially welcome him aboard after Frasier was a feverish and splutteringly mess when they'd first crossed paths previously the CMO was keen to rearrange.

Morgan strode into Sickbay, their bag over their shoulder and coffee in hand. They stops by the CMO office, knocking softly on the door with a soft friendly smile on their face.

"Good Morning, Dr. Greene. I take you're feeling alot better?"

They asked with soft concern. They had been worried seeing Dr. Greene in his feverish state when they had arrived on the ship.

Frasier turned at the voice: "Yes, much better thank you. How are you? Settling in, I hope? Please come in, make yourself comfortable."

“Very well, thank you.”

Morgan said.

“I’m hoping to get to know more of the crew. I know my skill set seems a bit focused but I am a fairly capable doctor with a lot to offer”

"That's good," Frasier nodded. "The crew is a diverse collection which will certainly test your knowledge and patience - I know it has mine," the human smirked. "Tell me more about your focused skill set?"

“My specific specializations are in LGBTQI+ Medicine including medicine relating to transitioning and Endocrinology, Gynecology/Obstetrics, and Pediatric Care.”

Morgan replies.

“And I also enjoy being someone that people can come to as a sort of “Therapy” Cat. I think that sometimes people don’t want to talk, but they need that comfort of having someone with them.”

"Indeed," Frasier nodded again. "Talking is a fantastic tool which should never be under estimated. We have an experienced team of counsellors already onboard whom will properly enjoy working with you on that matter. I'd recommended, if you haven't already done so to drop in and introduce yourself."

The human adjusted his sitting potion before continuing with his next question: "I'm curious regarding your expertise in gender transitioning - what made you decide to enhance yourself in that field?"

Morgan leans back in their chair.

"Because there are still places in the galaxy that are stuck in the old ways, where people have to hide who they are, or who they love. I want to be that person that helps them become who they truly are. It's also a personal thing to me, as someone under the LGBTQI umbrella. I want the crew to be able to come to me with problems that they might not feel comfortable telling to someone else. Someone that hasn't shared their experiences."

Greene broke into a wide smile: "That's incredible," he remarked. "Thank you being so open with me - I can see how passionate you about this, I hope you can aid in educating many others to be welcoming of all individuals no matter their choices."

Morgan gave a soft smile to the doctor.

“I’ll also be serving as your Assistant Chief Medical Officer, just in case you get another bout of the death flu”

"Ugh, I hope not," Greene rolled his eyes. "I don't think I'll be able to live that one down for some time. Having you here though, is a wonderful relief not having to rely on the EMH or Grocx too heavily when things get busy or if we're called away."

"My advice: forget the EMH, they've got such terrible bedside manners. A consequence of the Mark 1, though Voyager's EMH was a fine instructor when I was at the academy."

"Ours is..." Greene paused to find the words. "Feisty with a big portion of attitude on the side. Properly why she and Grocx, a Klingon medic get on so well."

"I can deal with feisty. I have been known to be a bit feisty myself...so to speak"

Morgan replied with a smirk on their face.

"I'll bear that in mind not to rub you the wrong way," Greene smiled. "As I'm sure you're aware we're still on our shake down cruise - a perfect time to iron out any issues and find our own rhythm. Did you have any concerns as of yet?"

"None at this time, but I'll let you know if anything comes up"

Morgan smiles back at Dr. Greene.

"Is there anything else you need, Doctor?"

"Not right now," Frasier shook his head. "I'll leave you to get yourself better equated with the crew and the ship and look forward to hearing your thoughts."

Morgan stands nodding as they leave to start their day in Sickbay.
