Personality & Traits
| General Overview | A shy and timid officer on his first space deployment, Emery is weighted by deep trauma, familial legacy and the yearning to be his own person. He grew up a Starfleet Brat among the stars of a different galaxy before returning to Earth. Emery is a focused and driven person, and when he sets himself to a task he tends to be single minded. Emery’s focus on goals can sometimes be to his own detriment. He will forego sleep, and sometimes food when he is spending hours in the lab. However, Emery strives to put people first, as he is very sensitive to feeling left out. When someone stops by, even if he is in the middle of a project he will make time for them. Emery likes to accept invitations to social engagements, and enjoys networking events. However, he can be somewhat of an introvert, and requires some time to himself to recharge. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Honesty, Sincerity, Driven, Booksmart with medical knowledge Weaknesses: Being too blunt. Emery tends to be just as blunt and honest as possible though he is making the effort to learn and grow his bedside manner, it has been compared to the early days of Leonard McCoy in terms of how he projects himself. Bad Habits or Vices: Emery tends to be blunt. Much like his father Gil, he’s honest to a fault and sometimes is not the most tactful, but is working on it. His coffee habit has become a concern of his fathers. Fears: Failure primarily. Emery fears the thought of bringing dishonor to his family’s name and legacy as one of the founding families of Starfleet. Prejudices: Emery does not harbor many prejudices. Growing up in an inclusive family and being a proud gay man himself, he is repulsed at the idea of ever excluding or in any way harboring prejudice against others. Emery has been noted as being open to others and new ideas. However, when encountering hostile races, Emery maintains suspicions and still holds a grudge against the Zandaryi. |
|
| Ambitions | Short-Term Goals: Growing as a doctor. Inspired by his uncle and the medical officers that came before him, Emery strives to do his best at whatever he puts his mind to. Long-Term Goals: Emery’s hope is to be a Ship’s Surgeon, and run his own medical department or Starbase Hospital focusing on advancing the frontiers of medicine across the new frontiers of the 25th century. |
|
| Hobbies & Interests | An academic at heart, yet the body of a gym rat, Emery spends equal time in the library and the gym. Due to the McEntyre line disposition of large Caitians, it takes effort to maintain their bodies. Likes: Reading. He enjoys classic novels, westerns, histories of the great eras of Starfleet. His most treasured possession is a copy of “In the Raptor’s Claw” to which he has a signed copy. He also enjoys exercising his mind and body. Dislikes: Cold weather, being from Texas and growing up on Starships with artificially controlled climates, he’s not used to extreme cold. Getting Wet. Not that he doesn’t enjoy swimming, it’s mainly the aftermath of drying all of his fur afterwards. |
| Personal History | Emery is the sole child of the Caitain, Rear Admiral Elias McEntyre and his husband, Captain Dr. Gil’an Tyris of Betazed. Emery’s Caitian ancestors obtained the McEntyre name when their ancestor, Jeremiah, was adopted by the Human Kristian McEntyre, and her husband Henry. Emery was born by surrogate at the Methodist Medical Assisted Reproduction Center, in Mansfield, Texas on the 23rd of October. Emery’s family have been Starfleet officers since before the Federation was founded, going back to the Earth-Romulan War. Growing up, Emery spent most of his life aboard starships with his father. Emery was just four years old when he joined his father as he took command of the U.S.S. Guinevere. As a child, Emery absorbed everything around him and took advantage of every opportunity to learn from the ship’s crew and see new worlds. When Emery was only 8, he experienced his first real traumatic event when he was kidnapped and held for ransom, not knowing if he would ever see his family again. Emery was taken from the Guinivere while the ship was exploring the Triangulum Galaxy. A hostile Triangulum race known as the Zandaryi were able to penetrate the ship’s defense systems and took Emery, the commanding officer’s child, as a negotiation tactic against the small Starfleet Contingent. Emery was held for several months in a jail on Zandaryi Prime beneath the palace of the Zandaryi Royal Kingdoms. It took the combined efforts of the Guinevere and Starfleet Special Operations to recover him. It left him with scars, physical and emotional which still causes recurring nightmares to this day. He continues to receive therapy to this day to process these nightmares along with feelings of hatred toward the Zandaryi people. Despite this traumatic experience Emery maintained his hope for the future. He continued to have a zeal for exploration. He knew that he still wanted to join Starfleet, despite the risks. It was time spent with a family member, an uncle to him, Dr. J.R. McEntyre turned Emery’s interests toward the medical profession. Emery was inspired to become a healer, and J.R. gave him the confidence that Emery also could pursue a career in medicine. As Emery prepared for entry into Starfleet medical, J.R. helped prepare him for his entrance exams and supported him throughout the process. When Emery first started the Academy it was an adjustment to be surrounded by peers at first. As an only child, Emery had spent much of his childhood around adults, and when there were others his age there were usually just one or two others. Thankfully there was another cadet living on the same floor at the Academy with similar interests. They had many of the same classes, since they were both premed. Christian Johansen quickly became a close friend and confidante, and helped widen Emery’s social circle quite a bit in his first few years. Emery learned that while he can tend to be an introvert, he actually really enjoyed the company of his peers and would make a point to socialize somewhat regularly. |
