Personal History Born in Matalo in 2375 to the famed Gustavo Martinez of Martinez C&C, Daniel Gael Garcia was immediately dubbed the heir to the hotelier’s businesses. Barely touched by the Dominion War due to the safety of building solely on established, safe planets far behind the fortitude of the Sol system, even the Borg proved little threat.

Dani grew up in the most competitive private school, forcing his educational growth and a series of hobbies he was forced to succeed at. So it was that a young Dani found himself playing both football (soccer) and taking Taekwondo. It wasn’t long before the martial arts assisted in success in his football games, and as such, his speed increased in his Taekwondo classes.

At age ten, the Attack on Utopia Planetia was carried out by the Synths. Mars itself was set ablaze and the Romulans were left to their own to escape their soon to be destroyed planet. The nova of the Hobus star looked large, and then it happened.

The Federation drew back its starships to older borders, established before the Treaty of Algeron. Dani didn’t quite understand the magnitude of these events, except that his father seemed more than a little concerned.

Otherwise, life in the Martinez household continued as if nothing had changed. And, as it turned out, most of Martinez C&C was unaffected by the terrorism, the synth ban and the end of the Romulan Star Empire. Gustavo remained in a strong behind Federation boarders, retracted or not.

Nearly eight years later, picking up journalism in college was far from what his father would have chosen, but when Dani pointed out that Martinez C&C could control the media narrative by Dani providing perfect answers to journalistic challenges, the Martinez name grew. It the seven years between Dani’s beginning of journalism classes and his graduation, Dani helped Martinez C&C open ten new high-end hotels deep in the Thallonian Empire.

If they could satisfy the Thallonians need for opulence, Martinez C&C felt they could be successful within the space of any Federation held territory.

Dani has spent nearly eight years working as an internal journalist for Martinez C&C, until his father decided it was time to unlock some markets that were not held by his company. Gustavo wanted his son to prove he had the business acumen of his father, effectively setting him off on a journey to the new Romulan homeworld.

While a huge risk, Gustavo felt he had to send Daniel away. His oldest son wasn’t like most Spanish men. Gustavo often caught his son’s eyes lingering on men too long. If Dani was ‘outed’ as gay, it might put a huge strain on his businesses.

Unlike Earth and the United Federation of Planets, not all the planets and people Gustavo did business with would accept this type of behavior. He would be shamed, so would his business suffer. And Dani was making his choices more verbal amongst his family, which had to be quashed.

It was Carlos, Dani’s younger brother, who would suggest Dani take up the offer from his father so he could live as he chose. He could also prove his life choices wouldn’t affect the business directly.

Dani wasn’t stupid, Carlos wanted the company for himself, but his brother was also not wrong. He could escape the oppression of his father, the way his mother pretended there was no problem between them and the creeping desire of his brother to take the company from him, edging him out to become the new heir.

Now, Dani found himself on a backwater Romulan world, ready to build a new division of the Martinez C&C hotelier’s division of Romulan Operations. He suspected this would be a lonely experience.
