Personality & Traits
General Overview | An independent man. Likes to do mostly everything himself. Had to for most of his life, as some depended on him to survive. His time with the freighter crew helped chill him out and although he had to train himself to stop the drummed-in instincts he grew up with to also chill slightly before regrettable unintentional things happen. | |
Strengths & Weaknesses | He will help those less fortunate than him as he had lived that life, sometimes giving too much leaving himself vulnerable. However, capable of taking care of himself thanks to years of Tal Shiar sponsored conditioning. He was taught by his parents and handlers to be unseen, the art of being unnoticed when the situation calls for it. Sometimes it can war with his heart when it comes to others suffering. Learning quickly is also a skill he has acquired, though he is not immune to failure. He has trained his brain to process information just a little faster. Well compared to a few of his fellows and some he encounters along his life’s journey. He generally wants to take people at their word but his training has taught him better and so sometimes prevented him from forming friendships with new people he meets. However that has somewhat improved later in life thanks to living with a freighter crew, he has learned to overcome his Tal Shiar mistrustful analysis instincts at first contact with someone new and still keep some of his guard up. |
|
Ambitions | He wants to avenge his parents ever since learning they were killed by the Tal Shiar, especially that they were on their way to joining him. The last time he spoke with his parents they made him promise that he would live a full life filled with adventure and peace. So he is working on fulfilling that promise and found that he had been able to explore this after he escaped his second home. |
|
Hobbies & Interests | Before turning 22 there wasn't time for pastimes and desires as survival was his main drive but after 22, however, he developed a liking to board games, chess mostly but he played many games during his time on the freighter. After joining the freighter crew is when he was introduced to the pleasures of hobbies and activities. He wants to experience just about everything at least once. At one point during a delivery mission the freighter visited a pleasure planet and he got to put his swimming lessons to practice for real. Languages Rihannsu and a little Reman, some Klingon, some Andorian, some Vulcan, some Orion and some Human english |
Personal History | Roman had the somewhat misfortune of being born to two Tal Shiar operatives who had stupidly fallen in love both off and on the job. Luckily his birth and subsequent 10 years of childhood was on Romulus had been hidden from the world. His parents knew that their superiors would use him against them if the Tal Shiar got their hands on Roman. Soon it wasn't just Roman as the years went on many other children joined him. Other stupid operatives had children as well and so his life brightened as he made friends with the other children of various ages. Though the children had some free time, the rest were their handlers teaching them all the basics and very harsh discipline followed any who failed or performed incorrectly. The Tal Shiar could burst in at any moment so they had to learn quickly and the safehouse was always full of tension, stress and fearful. Roman developed a natural talent for gadgetry and technology, though interest in the various sciences had peaked through often. It all came to a crashing halt when Roman turned 10, for the Tal Shiar found their safehouse and in the chaos majority of the visiting parents lost their lives as they helped the handlers fight to get to the escape shuttles, Roman saw his parents be killed just as the handlers dragged him, as the last of the children into the shuttles a moment before launch. He cried the whole way to the new safehouse like many of the children did, they all now understood the danger and why all the training and education was so harsh. It all was to prepare them for when they were discovered, and beyond of course. Their new home became Nimbus 3 in Paradise City, where the Federation, Romulans and Klingons attempted to create a colony together. It failed utterly and so the Orion syndicate, along with other criminal organisations moved in and now ruled those left behind. Roman, amongst the eldest of the children, helped the handlers get the younger children settled into their new safehouse. He and the other older children, along with most of the handlers, went out to find work. 6 long years later and they all had found purpose and learned how to survive there. Roman became fluent in several languages there and helped teach the younger children enough Klingon, Andorian, Vulcan, Orion and Human English as those were mostly those species living and working on Nimbus 3 congregating in Paradise City. Roman had been putting his technical knowledge to the test in a tech repair business and a few freelance jobs on the side. He even had several times been a local bar technician and just fixed things enough that he'd continue to get work there. He even landed an apprenticeship with the city's tech guild who mentored him while on the job. Occasionally reading about the various scientific literature he could find along the way. Being 16 at this stage Roman began to notice his attraction to his own gender and fooled around a bit with other inclined guys, both older and younger than him. Really only because of hormones running rampant. Though that wasn't the only thing messing with his mind, the Syndicate both professionally and personally, manipulated him by the fact he needed the money. Yet everyone needed it to survive in Paradise City and only so much entered the city's economy. His only choice was to play along until he could save enough or find a way to play the Syndicate for passage off world for his friends. A few months after turning 19 he met an older man by the name of Andronikos Jaesan, the two connected well and together they managed to score some small victories against the Syndicate in various ways. After 2 years, the pair had developed a relationship that gave Roman so much joy in life, the two had managed to get all his friends and their handlers out of Syndicate control and offworld in a variety of directions. Someday he hoped to reconnect with them once he'd left with Andronikos. On the eve of their final 'attack' on the Syndicate headquarters, Roman discovered Andronikos reporting to Starfleet Intelligence. Was their relationship a lie? Was Andronikos using him? Those questions had him running but Andronikos heard him and ran after him. The two managed to work it out after some hours of talking which had their operation moments away. Roman now knew what it was like for his parents, those moments they shared when they thought he was watching them. He had those with Andronikos and while it did hurt Roman that Andronikos didn't trust him enough to share that the older man was a Starfleet spy, being taught by spies himself it was easy to see why. Thankfully their shared goals of ruining the Syndicate gave them a common ground and so Roman promised to forgive once the job was done. A virus seemed like the best option as it could be sent to multiple computerized Syndicate assets and cause so much trouble but it had to be planted in their primary network and so the duo had infiltrated the local nightclub which the Syndicate used as headquarters in Paradise City. They succeeded in the virus' deployment but as they were on their way out Roman got caught and snatched out of Andronikos' hands as he was transported away. For the next year Roman suffered much torture before being forced to work for the Syndicate, but Roman had noticed that the Syndicate never discovered the virus, they didn't even know why Roman and Andronikos was there. He used his anger and that feeling of betrayal to fuel his resistance to whatever they tried to get him to talk. He almost gave in once or twice but he thanked his parents and handlers for the training that continues to save his life. In the last few days of the year a Romulan Freighter by the name of Unstable Unicorn arrived to drop off passengers and cargo. Roman had been charged with taking the cargo off the freighter, though once completed he managed to put himself into a largish crate that was marked for the freighter. He triggered the virus as he felt the crate he was inside of being lifted and moved aboard the Unstable Unicorn. He had a rebreather unit on as he was often worked to the point of heavy breathing and sometimes not able to get enough air, it all seemed destined to happen as he felt the crate be placed. Though not secured which he found odd but didn't think on it further for remaining hidden was top priority and so the freighter left Nimbus 3 moments later. He pictured the virus as it began its programmed assault as it would slowly re-wrote the Syndicate's computers for months. A few days went by as Roman secretly stole food and crawled through the freighter to find a better hiding spot. He'd found one but on his way back from a food trip he was discovered and brought before the freighter's captain, a Spirokris Solomon, Joined Trill male. Roman pleaded for them to take him to Earth, after much discussion and questioning the captain agreed provided he earned it by working. Though during the journey the freighter crew never had the opportunity to go to Earth as they picked up job after job, soon he began to enjoy whatever daily tasks and education the crew gave him. Before he knew it Roman was 29 and a month away from his birthday. He'd traveled much of the Alpha and Beta quadrant's known space with the occasional tangents off into unknown space for whatever reason in that time. While he enjoyed being a technician, scientific investigation and experimentation became more of his thing and earned enough to live comfortably somewhere. A few days before his birthday the Unstable Unicorn arrived at Earth and the crew, him included, had shoreleave. 2 days prior to their departure Roman ran into Andronikos and while Roman had long ago forgiven Andronikos for leaving him behind he wouldn't have met his new friends and got to do so much. It seemed that the other man hadn't managed to move on, well emotionally anyway, because he immediately pleaded forgiveness. He did try to get Roman out several times but the Syndicate had secured many of their assets physically as it seemed their virus had caused lots of problems, not all at once however. Just enough to be a nagging nuisance. Roman and Andronikos spent the rest of those 2 days together and talked most of the time. When Andronikos mentioned the Atlantis Project, Roman was intrigued and so they went to explore it. Upon returning to the Unstable Unicorn, Spirokris informed Roman that his debt was paid and he was granted freedom. Of course Spirokris encouraged Roman to stay onboard if he wanted to. Roman did but decided to remain on Earth, so after a farewell party and tearfilled goodbye the crew returned to their freighter and Andronikos led Roman to his place before they lived together for a year. |

Service Record | Roman gained an apprenticeship at Daystrom Institute, Oceanographic and Planetary Operations division. It went on for 8 years, all the while assisting in the Atlantis Project which had Daystrom Institute support. Roman did extra courses in Xeno studies and planetary sciences which his work on the Atlantis Project helped him with. The Dominion War during 2373 to 2375 had put most of the scientific projects and other civilian activities on hold as the Federation focused on the war so Andronikos was deployed and Roman reconnected with the Unstable Unicorn's crew as they took some supply jobs to worlds affected by the war. During the time he spent on the Unstable Unicorn, Roman became the romantic focus of the Captain. Spirokris had noticed the man Roman had become and was now interested. Roman couldn't believe it, though he himself had feelings for Andronikos but he couldn't deny that because how Spirokris had taken him in and helped him did produce feelings for the Trill, who happened to be unjoined. It was all confusing and hard to deal with, he cared for both older men. It was in different ways of course, as soon as those ways crossed over Roman knew he'd be in trouble. Before he knew it it was 2379 and he had been summoned back to Earth and the various projects he'd been involved with as they gained attention once again. A few days before they were due to arrive back at Earth, Roman accepted a dinner date with Spirokris and the two had kissed at the end. It was all exciting and scary at the same time as he'd only been romantic with Andronikos. Living life and exploring the scientific realm was full of wonder to Roman having come from a sheltered childhood, and harsh adolescence. It was still hard to fight his training whenever something appeared new, threatening and or friendly but with both Andronikos and the Unstable Unicorn’s crew sharing their knowledge, wisdom and experiences with him, it helped him at those times and he was grateful to them more than they’d ever know. Well he’d told Andronikos once. By 2387 Roman had not only helped progress the Atlantis Project along their timetable, he’d completed his Doctorate in Planetary Sciences. There was always more to learn and most of that came from field experience, he knew theory work was only a guide. Oceanic and Marine Studies were lacking due to both lack of appropriate exposure and the recovery efforts still going on from the Dominion War across the alpha and beta quadrants. What’s worse was that a star near Romulus went supernova and collapsed the Star Empire into utter chaos. This news, Roman hadn’t been able to process quickly, he’d not thought of Romulus in so many years that while he had fond memories of his parents and friends there. That now that that locational connection was lost, pained him. It was also from a species point of view that their homeworld was now gone, that a different form of loss as well as many of his species instantly killed squeezed his heart. The other side of the coin however, considering he had been on the run from the Tal Shiar half of his life, and probably they will find him again, he felt relief that the corrupt and evil in the empire got their dues for their crimes against the people. Most suffered under the Tal Shiar and the rest of the government, so these feelings warred with each other as Roman had watched the news feeds. Days later Spirokris with the Unstable Unicorn and crew turned up and asked Roman to help him with supply runs to Romulan colonies that had been utterly reliant on the homeworld to sustain them. It seemed several other Romulan friends of Spirokris were pitching in as well when Roman joined them. It was disappointing to learn that the Federation weren’t able to come to the aid party for Mars had suffered an attack by their synthetic lifeforms. The entire fleet of transports and supplies were destroyed in the attack along with the fleetyards and most of the surface facilities. Dark days for the Federation and Star Empire, as Roman came to call this time as he worked. He heard the ban on all aspects of synthetic life come into play and while he’d only done 2 courses in cybernetics at Daystrom concurrently with his doctorate, he was saddened that it seemed a ban was the only action the Federation did. It took until 2395 for the various Romulan colonies that the Unstable Unicorn and crew, Roman included, to get settled. Though life in those colonies were far from civil standards, some eventually tolerated Federation assistance on a few occasions Roman had been in the area with the Unstable Unicorn’s crew and it was not an pleasant exchange. Roman went back to Earth at the end of 2395 for a few courses in sciences he hadn’t looked into yet, most were about a year long and so for 6 years he learned all he could, though of course just the theory work. There wasn’t much else to do and the times either Andronikos and or Spirokris showed up they’d lavish him with their time talking about their travels as well as sometimes gifts. On a trip back from the far side of the beta quadrant part of the Federation, Roman was on the Unstable Unicorn. He had been investigating the inhospitable environment of Galorndon Core and as they were on their way back, they detected Starfleet activity on the world that had the Federation database labeled Amphitrite, and abandoned which was an interesting tidbit of info, but the Romulan database however, that his friends must have picked up somewhere, labeled it Ihhuein ei'krih aka Water Home. |
